Bio

“Consulting is diverse, stimulating, and challenging. It’s teamwork on steroids, and there’s never a dull moment.” What makes an aerospace engineer become a consultant? For Bob Willen, both fields offer an endless supply of challenging questions with sometimes complicated and often elegant solutions. “I’ve always liked trying to solve problems that don’t have an easy answer, and I wanted to see how that would work in business,” he says. “It’s the perfect combination of learning and being able to make an impact.” Bob currently serves as managing director and chair of Kearney’s Middle East and Africa region. He has more than 25 years of consulting experience leading strategic and organizational transformations for large commercial and government clients globally and previously headed Kearney’s global aerospace and defense, automotive, transportation, and infrastructure practices. He is co-author of Rebuilding the Corporate Genome, which explores how companies can gain advantage from the breakdown and reconfiguration of value chains. Bob is also a former US soccer goalkeeper, and teamwork has always been important to him. “I love to face challenges together with clients and help them make a real difference. However, you must earn the right to share your perspective, and that means gaining the knowledge and insight needed. I’m always learning.” While Bob didn’t set out to stay in consulting, he discovered it combines the things he enjoys most. “I do feel Kearney is the perfect match for me. I get to do what I love, and I’ve built many deep friendships around the world in a global firm that feels connected. There aren’t many places you’d find that.”
